What is a Peer Specialist?
A Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) is an individual with a lived experience and journey in receiving public mental health services and supports. “Peers” provide direct services to support others with health navigation, accessing resources, and supporting a person centered recovery journey to achieve community inclusion and participation, independence, recovery resiliency. At ARE Inc. of Jackson/Hillsdale, our CPSS’ meet on a 1:1 basis with their peers in the community. Our CPSS’ are trained, if desired, in various Medicaid groups and can facilitate such groups.

Group Support
Connection is the name of the game with ARE support and recovery groups. Groups like Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), Whole Health Action Planning (WHAM), Traveler’s Guide and Pathways to Recovery, give participants the opportunity to work on their mental health goals in a safe, supportive environment.
Participants must be receiving ARE Peer Supports or Parent Support as indicated in their LifeWays endorsed person-centered plan.
